How to configure Public Folder Replication in Exchange Server 2010

If there are two or more public folder databases in Exchange Server 2010, the public Folder Hierarchy will be replicated automatically. As each Mailbox server has only one Public Folder database, you need to install and configure at lease two Mailbox servers in the Exchange Organization for automatic public folder hierarchy replication to occur. In order to replicate the public folder data between Mailbox Servers, you’ve to create replicas.

How to configure basic replication options
1. In the Exchange Management Console, right-click the public folder database, and then select Properties.
2. In the Properties dialog box, on the Replication tab, use the following options to configure replication:
• First, right click on the Public Folder Database from the Exchange Management Console.
• Now, choose Properties.
• From the Properties dialog box, on the Replication tab you have to configure the replication using following options.

1. Replication Interval : It is able to determine when changes to public folders are replicated. Select a specific time (Always Run, Run Every Hour, Run Every 2 Hours, Run Every 4 Hours, or Never Run), or select Use Custom Schedule and then click Customize to define the Schedule.
2. Replication Interval For “Always Run” (Minutes) is able to set the interval in minutes and the intervals are used when you select Always Run as the replication option. The default interval time is 15 minutes.
3. Replication Message Size Limit (KB) is able to set the size limit in Kilobytes for the messages that are being sent between public folder database in order to replicate the Content. Moreover, the default size limit is 300 Kilobytes and this setting will not affect the size of the messages posted to a public folder.
• After that, you have to click on OK in order to save the settings. In the Exchange Management Shell, you need to control the replication of public folder data using the Set-PublicFolderDatabase cmdlet. In this article, we have given some overviews about the Syntax and Usage. Although we have given some more cmdlets in our blog, yet this will be very useful for you.
