How to delete the older Documents And Settings folder after upgrading to Windows Vista or Windows 7

As the Windows started to rock in the market, everyone started to enjoy a new experience. However, the Windows users want to delete the “Documents and Settings” folder on the Windows Vista installation. Before, you delete the "Documents and Settings" folder or the Users folder; please ensure that all the personal files and Data have been transferred to the new “Documents and Settings” folder on the new Windows Vista Installation. Follow the following steps to delete the Window.old folder from the old version of Windows.


1.    First, click on Start, then type disk cleanup in the Start Search text box.
2.    Then click on Disk Cleanup.
3.    After that, click on the Files from all users on this Computer in the Disk Cleanup Options.
4.    Then, click on Continue in the User Account Control (UAC) dialog box.
5.    Now, you can click to select the Previous Windows Installation check box and then click on OK.
Moreover, you can use the Command Prompt in order to delete the files and folder from an older version of the Windows. Follow the simple following steps.
1.    Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories and right click on the Command Prompt.
2.    Now, choose Run as Administrator.
3.    Then in the User Account Control dialog box (UAC), click on Continue.
4.    At the command prompt, type takeown /F :\\* /R /A
5.    Then press ENTER.

6.    At the command prompt, type cacls :\\*.* /T /grant administrators:F, and then press ENTER.

If you enter the above command, you will be granted the full rights for all of the files and the folders in the Computer.
7.    Thereafter, at the command prompt, type rmdir /S /Q :\\, and then press ENTER.

If you run this command, all subfolders and files in the specified folder will be deleted. Moreover, the specified folder itself will be deleted.
