Unable to open the .exe files in the Computer

Unable to open the .exe files has become the popular error message today. Whenever you double click on the .exe file, you can get the dialog box “Open With” or it will open as a Notepad or any other program. This issue occurs due to the conflict with the Registry files of the Computer. If you’re sure that the Registry is good, then the issue may be related with the Virus. You can follow the following steps to resolve the issue.

Solution # 1.

• This first solution applies to the Windows XP Operating System and the Windows 2000 Version Operating Systems.
• Now, open the Folder Options from the Control Panel or from the Tools Manu, Folder Options.
• Now, you have to select the “File Type” tab.

• Then, click on the New to create a new extension.
• After that, type “exe” and then click on the OK button.
• Now, the “exe” extension will be automatically selected.
• Then, click Restore.
• Then, close the Dialog Box.

Solution # 2.

This solution applies to all the version of the Windows Operating Systems.
• First, you have to open a Notepad from Start Menu, All Programs, Accessories and Notepad.
• Or from the Run Command by typing “notepad”.
• After opening the Notepad, you have to copy and paste the following instruction.

• Then click on File> Save As ...
• Now, you have to save the file using the “Save As” option.
• Then, select All Files Type.
• After that, you have to name the file with the .reg.
• Now, click on Save button to save it.
• Then, close the Notebook and then right click on the .reg file and select merge.
• After selecting the merge, you’ve to click on Yes and then on OK.

Solution # 3.

• These steps are about editing the Registry of the Computer.
• Open the Run Command from the Start Menu.
• Or else, just type the Windows Key and the R Key simultaneously to open the Run Command.
• In the Run Command window, please type “command”.
• Then, try to type the following commands one bye one.
• After successfully opening the Registry Editor, you can navigate to the following Key.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ exefile \ shell \ open \ command
• Double-click the (Default) value in the right pane
• Then, double click on the (Default) value from the right side pane.
• Now, delete the current value data and then type:
• Delete the current value data, and then type:
"%1" %*
(ie., quote-percent-one-quote-space-percent-asterisk.)
• After that navigate to:
• Now, from the right-pan, you have to set the default) to exe file.
• Then, exit the Registry Editor.
