Troubleshoot: System tray icons are missing from the taskbar in Windows7

•    Before performing the steps, make sure that you’ve saved all the open files and close all the programs as there is a possibility of data loss.
•    First, it is required to restart the explorer process.
•    Then, press the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys on the keyboard.
•    After that, select Task Manager. You may also use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open the task manager.
•    Now, it is required to select the processes tab in the Windows Task Manager window.
•    Then, on the process tab in the Image Name Column, it is required to click to select explorer.exe and then click the End Process button.
•    After that, it’s required to click the End process button in the “Do you want to end this process?” window.
•    After the above steps, click File and then click New Task (Run) in the menu bar of the Windows Task Manager.
•    Now, in the “Create New Task” window in the Open: textbox, type: explorer.exe click the OK button.
•    Now, the explorer process will start.
•    After that, it is required to edit the registry of the operating system.

1.    Click on the start button, type “regedit” in the search box and then press the enter key to open the Windows Registry Editor Window.
2.    Remember, you’ve to enter the password, if you’re prompted for the password.
3.    If required, it is required to allow the UAC (user account controls) to eid the registry.
4.     Now, navigate to the following key.
o    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
o    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Note: If any of the following key names are shown in the right-hand pane, they need to be deleted. If you find any of the following key names mentioned below, it is required to delete them.

  • HideSCANetwork

  •  HideClock

  •  HideSCAPower

  •  HideSCAVolume

  •  NoAutoTrayNotify

  •  NoTrayItemsDisplay

After deleting the key names in the registry, browse to the following key
•    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer to repeat the steps for deleting any of the key names shown above.
•    Then, it is required to logout and login again.
•    Now, the issue is successfully resolved.
